Benefits of Child Labour:
- Child Labour provides a low labour cost for the producers of goods so that they are able to produce more of this commodity. This would be beneficial to the countries that receive these exports because the more coffee in circulation, the lower the price that consumers will end up paying for a cup of coffee.
- Provides more income to families that are living in poverty.
- Countries that are not highly developed are able to export the coffee to other developed countries who consume large amounts of coffee
Cons of Child Labour:
- Children who work on these plantations are often illiterate because they are never given the opportunity to go to school and get an education. Because of this many end up working at the coffee plantations their entire lives because they do not have any other opportunities.
- Children are treated very poorly and must work long hours and are exposed to dangerous pesticides and coffee dust.
- The low wages that they are paid are not sufficient enough to survive on.
- They can be exposed and subjected to verbal, physical and sexual abuse.
